How We Compare
The Final Pick evaluates products using the same core criteria within each comparison. Our goal is to make meaningful differences easier to understand and help readers choose based on their priorities.
The criteria and weights shown on this page reflect the current ergonomic pillow comparison. Other product categories may use different criteria and weights suited to that category.
Our Evaluation Criteria
The criteria and weighting shown here are for our current ergonomic pillow comparison. Other product categories may use different criteria.
Ergonomic Design
How thoughtfully the product is designed around the needs of the category and the experience it aims to provide.
Support & Loft
How well the product provides appropriate support, structure, height, or firmness for its intended use.
Comfort & Cooling
Materials, cushioning, breathability, temperature management, and overall comfort considerations.
Flexibility
How well the product accommodates different positions, preferences, or adjustment needs.
Value
Overall value relative to price, considering materials, design, features, and available return or warranty terms.
How Rankings Are Determined
We review each product against the same criteria and assign qualitative editorial ratings based on the product information available to us, including published specifications, materials, features, pricing, and manufacturer policies.
The weighted criteria are combined to inform the overall ranking. The highest-ranked product is the one we believe offers the strongest overall balance across the criteria—not necessarily the best choice for every person or preference.
Close scores and ties
When products land very close together, the weighted total is not the only consideration. We use editorial judgment to look at the size and relevance of each product’s strengths, especially when one option has a meaningful advantage for the needs most important to the comparison. A small numerical difference does not automatically make one product meaningfully better than another.
A Worked Example
Here is a simplified illustration of how the weighting can combine five ratings. It is an example only and is not a published score for any specific product.
For our published comparisons, the ratings remain qualitative editorial judgments. The example above simply shows how the five weights can combine; it should not be interpreted as a laboratory measurement or an exact performance score.
Editorial Standards
Product information. We review publicly available product information, including specifications, materials, features, pricing, offers, and published return or warranty policies. We use the same core criteria across products within a comparison.
Updates. We periodically review published guides and update information when important product details, pricing, availability, or policies change. We display a “Last updated” date so readers can see when a guide was most recently reviewed.
Corrections. If we identify an error or receive a credible correction, we review the information and update the page when appropriate.
Editorial judgment. Our rankings and ratings are qualitative editorial judgments. They are not laboratory measurements, clinical evaluations, or guarantees of performance.
Affiliate relationships. Some links may generate a commission. Affiliate relationships do not determine our editorial rankings.
